Marathoner
The folks celebrate his homecoming from
The brutal war with a parade
And speeches in his honor
A silent, sad soldier
The Hometown hero
A Football star
Without legs.
Shoulders
Sag
Tears
Trickle
Lips quiver
Memory fragments
Chunks of a childhood
And sweet river summers
Filled with youthful desire.
Seasoned warrior at twenty-one
His Boston Marathon days are done.
